How do we organize the acclimatization?

Our pedagogical specialists work with the attachment-oriented Berlin acclimatization model. In doing so, we align ourselves with the 4 classic phases of the model – basic phase, separation attempt, stabilization phase and final phase.

 

1. Basic phase - The child gets to know us and builds trust

In the first few days (approx. 3-5 days), a parent (or a primary caregiver) accompanies the child and stays with them for one to two hours in the day-care center. The child feels the parent's sure eye and is drawn into the events with the other children by the caregiver and begins to develop a relationship with their caregiver.

 

2. The first attempt at separation

After (approx. 3-5) days, the first attempt at separation is made in order to assess how far the child is in the process of acclimatization and how this can be continued for the child's well-being. The parent retires to another room for half an hour. If the child hardly reacts by continuing to play, the caregiver knows that it is easy for the child to get used to it and that it can be shortened if necessary. If the child does not take the separation positively, the settling-in process will be adapted to the child's needs.

 

3. Stabilization phase - The child gets used to us and his new environment

From the (approx. 5-10) day, visiting the day-care center slowly becomes a new part of the child's everyday life. The parents are still present, but remain in the background and give the caregiver space to accompany the child in day-to-day life. The separation time and length of stay are extended daily, depending on the child's welfare.

 

4. Final phase –  The child feels welcome and comfortable

As a rule, after about 10-30 days of familiarization, the reference specialist has become a reference person for the child and the other specialists are familiar to the child. Parents can leave their child in the day-care center knowing that it will be accepted and comfortable there. We ask parents to always be available by phone in case of emergencies.
